As Idaho National Laboratory looks to transform grid capabilities, national security scientists are solving major energy challenges by advancing the engineering and technology eminence and vitality of the lab's research in secure, resilient and clean power systems. Dr Emma Stewart aids INL in advancing its critical infrastructure security and resilience initiatives.

Stewart joins the lab from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), an organization of 900 electric utilities providing electricity to more than half of the United States and managing about 60% of America's distribution lines. As NRECA's chief scientist, Stewart led the organization's multimillion dollar research and development portfolio and oversaw the co-op's Cyber Solutions Program that provided members with workforce education and training, information sharing, and incident response support. During her career, Stewart has worked for international utilities and other U.S. national laboratories.

With a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and a Master of Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, Stewart is the author or co-author of more than 112 peer-reviewed papers, has been awarded two patents, and is a member of several technical conference committees and boards. She has been awarded a Federal Lab Consortium (FLC) Far West Region Award and an R&D 100 Award, among other distinguished recognitions.

Stewart joins INL as a directorate fellow, a prestigious title recognizing the top scientist for their research and development achievements and scientific and technical acumen.
